Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas appoints Nishith Mehta as Head – Financial Regulatory & Compliance
Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas has announced the joining of Nishith Mehta as the Head – Financial Regulatory & Compliance. He will be based at the firm’s Mumbai office.
Nishith brings over 25 years of experience in banking and capital markets, having held leadership positions across regulatory and compliance functions at prominent financial institutions. He joins the firm from Bank of America Merrill Lynch (BofA), where he co-headed Asia Pacific Compliance and Operational Risk, and also served as the Country Head of Compliance and Operational Risk and Chief Compliance Officer for regulated businesses in India.
Throughout his career, Nishith has managed a wide range of products and asset classes within Global Banking and Markets and has worked with major banking and securities regulators across Asia. His previous experience also includes stints at Lehman Brothers, Kotak Mahindra group (JV with Goldman Sachs), and Edelweiss group.
With Nishith’s appointment, the firm aims to significantly enhance its regulatory, risk, and compliance offerings for clients in the financial sector. The Financial Regulatory & Compliance practice at CAM will operate as part of the broader Financial Institutions Group (FIG), a sector-focused team of over 10 partners, 50 fee earners, and 10 former regulators, advisors, and senior bankers. FIG serves a diverse range of clients including banks, specialty finance firms, mutual funds, fintechs, insurtechs, broker-dealers, and global tech platforms, with a focus on domestic and cross-border transactions, policy advisory, and investigations.
Cyril Shroff, Managing Partner, Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, said,
“I am delighted to have Nishith join CAM to drive the financial regulatory & compliance practice. The Firm has always been in the forefront working with several regulatory bodies and developing effective strategies for its clients. His extensive experience in the industry will be instrumental in strengthening our financial regulatory & compliance offerings.”
Nishith Mehta commented on his appointment,
“It is a privilege to be part of Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, and I am deeply thankful to Mr. Shroff for his gracious welcome and the opportunity to drive such a critical and dynamic practice. I look forward to contributing to the Firm’s outstanding legacy by building on its strong foundations and working alongside its exceptional professionals to deliver trusted solutions to our clients. In today’s dynamic regulatory environment, where financial institutions are increasingly focused on reputational and regulatory risks, we aim to be a trusted advisor that helps clients navigate complexity with clarity and confidence.”
Anu Tiwari (Partner, Head – Fintech & Financial Services Regulatory), said,
“CAM has been the market-maker in the financial services space, and with Nishith joining us we will expand our bench and client solutions. Our Financial Institutions Group looks forward to benefitting from his experience and working with him. I warmly welcome Nishith to CAM and look forward to growing the practice.”
