Facebook's gain is Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas' loss
Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas Chennai Head GV Anand Bhushan has been named as the new Director (Legal) of Facebook
GV Anand Bhushan, Chennai Head of Indian law firm Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas (SAM) is all set to leave the firm. He is to join Facebook as its new Director (Legal), based in India.
Bhushan had joined Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas in 2016 to set up and head its Chennai office.
American social media giants like Facebook and Twitter have been under pressure to appoint senior officials to deal with legal affairs and public grievances in India following the recent amendment in the IT Rules and their failures to get any relief from the Delhi High Court.
"We look forward to continuing the relationship even when he is at Facebook. We wish him all the very best and great success," Pallavi Shroff, Managing Partner at Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas was quoted by Bar & Bench as saying while confirming the news.
Bhushan, a graduate of Dr Ambedkar Law University, Tamil Nadu and an LL.M. from Case Western Reserve University School of Law (United States), was previously associated with Cognizant Technology Solutions as General Counsel before joining Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas in 2016. He also ran his own law firm in the past.
