Former NSE Vice President Ajit Sinha Joins Angel One as General Counsel
One of India’s leading fintech and broking platforms, Angel One, has appointed Ajit Sinha as its General Counsel. In his new role, Sinha will lead the company’s legal function and provide strategic counsel to the Board and senior leadership team.
Sinha brings over 24 years of experience across corporate law, financial services, capital markets, and banking. He joins Angel One from the National Stock Exchange of India Limited (NSE), where he served as Vice President and Head of the Corporate Legal Team for NSE and its group companies since December 2018. During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in shaping legal strategy, governance frameworks, and enterprise risk management across domestic and international entities.
At NSE, Sinha advised on a wide range of matters including securities laws, mergers and acquisitions, litigation, intellectual property, and regulatory compliance. He supported the Board and senior management in readiness for compliance with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDPA), structured complex mergers and group restructurings, and managed the NSE Group’s global intellectual property portfolio across more than 40 jurisdictions. He was also closely involved in landmark initiatives such as the SGX Connect, international bullion exchanges at GIFT City, and the expansion of NSE Group subsidiaries across IT solutions, edtech, data and indices, CSR, and international exchange businesses.
Welcoming the appointment, Amit Majumdar, Group Chief Strategy Officer, Angel One Limited, said,
“At Angel One, governance, client protection, and regulatory discipline are foundational to how we operate. Ajit’s experience across exchanges, banking, and capital markets will be invaluable as we scale our businesses and innovate responsibly within a strong regulatory framework. His leadership will further strengthen our in-house legal and compliance capabilities.”
Commenting on his appointment, Ajit Sinha said,
“Angel One stands at the dynamic crossroads of cutting-edge technology, vibrant capital markets, and evolving regulations. It is a privilege to join an organisation that prioritises trust, transparency, and strong governance while pursuing innovation at scale. I look forward to working closely with the leadership team to reinforce robust legal, regulatory, and risk management frameworks to support Angel One’s growth.”
Prior to his tenure at NSE, Sinha spent nearly a decade at HSBC (2008–2018), serving as Vice President – Legal (Retail Banking) and later as Senior Legal Counsel – Corporate Banking. Earlier, he worked as Regional Legal Counsel – North at Citicorp Finance India Limited (2005–2008). He began his legal career at Capital Factors and Recoveries Limited, an Escorts Group company.
Sinha holds a Master’s degree in International Business, Trade, and Tax Law from the National Law School of India University (NLSIU). He earned his LLB and Bachelor of Science (Chemistry Honours) from Magadh University, Bodh Gaya.
Angel One Limited is a prominent Indian fintech company and the largest listed retail stockbroking house in the country, providing a wide range of financial services through its digital platforms. It was founded as a traditional brokerage firm in 1996 by Mr. Dinesh Thakkar and transitioned to a digital-first model in 2019.
