Former OLA Group GC Rohit Kumar Appointed General Counsel at ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India
ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS) has appointed Rohit Kumar, formerly Group General Counsel at OLA Group, as its new General Counsel, succeeding Ashok Kumar P, who is joining UltraTech Cement.
Kumar is a 2002 graduate of Symbiosis International University, holding a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree, and brings over two decades of experience in corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, commercial law, and compliance—both in-house and in private practice. He previously practiced with JSA and Herbert Smith Freehills before transitioning to in-house roles at UPL and OLA Group.
As Group General Counsel at OLA, Kumar oversaw the legal function for the company’s EV, ride-hailing, consumer, and generative AI businesses.
On joining AM/NS, Kumar commented,
“I am happy to be here and look forward to doing this interesting and challenging assignment as best as I can.”
Kumar’s appointment reinforces AM/NS’s commitment to strengthening its corporate legal leadership and supporting complex industrial, operational, and strategic initiatives across the steel and energy sectors.
ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) is a major integrated flat carbon steel producer in India, established as a joint venture between ArcelorMittal (60% stake) and Nippon Steel (40% stake) in December 2019, following the acquisition of Essar Steel. The company operates an integrated steel mill in Hazira, Gujarat, and has a significant presence across the country.
