Justice Revati P. Mohite Dere Recommended As Chief Justice Of Meghalaya High Court By Supreme Court Collegium
Justice Revati P. Mohite Dere recommended as Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court by Supreme Court Collegium
The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the appointment of Justice Revati P. Mohite Dere of the Bombay High Court as the Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court. The recommendation was made during the Collegium meeting held on December 18, 2025.
Justice Dere is currently the second senior-most judge of the Bombay High Court. She was born in Pune and completed her Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from Symbiosis Law College, Pune, graduating with First Class Distinction and securing the second rank in the University of Pune merit list. She further pursued a Master of Laws (LL.M.) at the University of Cambridge, UK, as a recipient of the prestigious Cambridge Commonwealth Trust Scholarship.
Justice Dere began her legal career working in the chambers of her father, Senior Advocate Vijayrao A. Mohite, in Pune, and subsequently with Barrister Raja S. Bhosale in Mumbai. She practiced extensively in the Bombay High Court and Sessions Court across criminal, civil, and constitutional law.
Prior to her elevation to the bench, she served in several key government roles, including Additional Public Prosecutor for the Union of India, Senior Counsel (Group I & II) for the Union of India, and Government Pleader & Public Prosecutor for the State of Maharashtra.
She was elevated as an Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court in 2013 and became a Permanent Judge in 2015, continuing to serve without any transfer.
The Collegium’s recommendation reflects Justice Dere’s extensive judicial experience, legal acumen, and contribution to the administration of justice, as she prepares to assume leadership of the Meghalaya High Court.
The Supreme Court Collegium, in its meeting held on December 18, 2025, also recommended the elevation of other judges as Chief Justices of various High Courts, including Justice Manoj Kumar Gupta to the Uttarakhand High Court; Justice M.S. Sonak to the Jharkhand High Court; Justice A. Muhamed Mustaque to the Sikkim High Court; and Justice Sangam Kumar Sahoo to the Patna High Court.
