Surender Sharma appointed as General Counsel at Syngene International Limited
Syngene International Limited (A Biocon Group Company) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Surender Sharma as General Counsel, effective October 28, 2025. In this role, he will oversee Legal, Secretarial, and Regulatory Affairs functions for the organisation and will serve as a member of the Executive Committee.
Mr. Sharma joins Syngene from Colgate-Palmolive (India) Ltd., where he most recently served as Whole-Time Director and Vice President – Legal, Secretarial, and Corporate Affairs. He brings over two and a half decades of rich experience across corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, compliance, and regulatory affairs, having worked with leading organisations including Colgate-Palmolive, Marico, Heinz, Indian Hotels, Reckitt, and Maruti.
A Lawyer and Company Secretary by qualification, Mr. Sharma has been recognized for his strategic counsel, commercial acumen, and integrity-driven leadership throughout his career. He has successfully navigated complex legal and governance landscapes, advised Boards and leadership teams on risk and compliance, and played a pivotal role in shaping corporate ethics and sustainability frameworks. His deep understanding of business and governance, coupled with a future-oriented legal mindset, positions him well to strengthen Syngene’s legal foundations as the company continues to scale globally.
In his new role, Mr. Sharma will focus on reinforcing enterprise-wide legal and compliance frameworks, enabling business growth through strategic legal partnerships, and ensuring governance and regulatory standards remain robust, transparent, and future-ready.

Professional Experience
Mr. Sharma has held senior leadership roles across multiple leading organisations, including Colgate-Palmolive, Marico, Heinz, Indian Hotels, Reckitt, and Maruti, with responsibilities spanning legal, secretarial, and corporate affairs functions. His experience covers corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, compliance, regulatory affairs, litigation management, and advisory services to Boards and leadership teams. Throughout his career, he has played a pivotal role in shaping corporate ethics, sustainability frameworks, and risk management strategies, consistently providing commercially focused, strategic legal counsel.
Education
Mr. Sharma is a qualified Lawyer and Company Secretary, holding degrees in Law and Company Secretaryship from prestigious institutions, along with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry. He has combined his academic knowledge with extensive practical experience to navigate complex legal, regulatory, and corporate governance matters effectively, establishing a strong foundation for his leadership in legal and compliance functions.
