Strengthening Malaysia’s Economic Landscape: New Initiatives by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living
“Malaysia reduces trademark registration fees in 2025 to help MSMEs protect local brands and expand into international markets”
In conjunction with the upcoming National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations in 2025, the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has announced a series of strategic initiatives aimed at empowering local businesses and enhancing consumer welfare. These initiatives, unveiled by Minister Armizan Mohd Ali, underscore the government’s ongoing commitment to fostering national prosperity, unity, and economic resilience.
Trademark Fee Reduction Package: Protecting Local Brands for Global Competitiveness
A flagship initiative under this campaign is the Trademark Fee Reduction Package, launched under the theme “Protect Local Brands, Penetrate Global Markets.” Recognizing the pivotal role of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) — which comprise 96.1 percent of Malaysia’s business landscape — the ministry has introduced a substantial fee reduction on trademark registration through the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO).
- Offer Details: Trademark registration fees have been reduced by RM300 (approximately US$71), lowering the cost from RM950 (US$225) to RM650 (US$154) per application.
- Duration: The promotion will be valid for a four-month period, from September 1 to December 31, 2025.
- Eligibility: The offer is open to a broad spectrum of applicants including individuals, business entities, associations, and organizations.
This initiative aims to encourage MSMEs to safeguard their intellectual property rights, thereby enhancing their brand value and competitiveness in both domestic and international markets.
Shopee Consumer Campaign: Direct Benefits for Malaysian Shoppers
In collaboration with Shopee, one of Malaysia’s leading e-commerce platforms, KPDN is also launching the “Shopee Payung RM100 Campaign” to provide immediate benefits to consumers.
- Campaign Highlights: Shoppers can acquire RM100 (US$24) vouchers at a nominal cost of RM1 (US$0.4), usable across Shopee’s diverse platforms including ShopeeFood and Shopee Live.
- Duration: The campaign will run from August 31 to September 16, 2025.
- Impact: With a total budget allocation of RM10 million (US$2.37 million), the campaign is expected to benefit approximately 100,000 consumers. Additional perks include free delivery services during the campaign period.
This consumer-centric initiative is designed to ease the cost of living and stimulate purchasing power amid a competitive retail environment.
Enhanced Public Service Delivery: Introduction of Ezbiz On-The-Go 2.0
To further support business operations, the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM), under the KPDN umbrella, has launched an upgraded mobile service known as Ezbiz On-The-Go 2.0 Bus. This enhanced service vehicle aims to improve accessibility and efficiency for the public seeking SSM services.
Key improvements include:
- A larger, more modern bus outfitted with advanced counter services.
- Self-service touch-screen kiosks to expedite transactions.
- Enhanced comfort and convenience for service users.
This upgrade reflects KPDN’s dedication to streamlining public service delivery, making it more user-friendly and responsive to the needs of Malaysian entrepreneurs and citizens.
Commitment to National Unity and Prosperity
Minister Armizan Mohd Ali emphasized that these initiatives are not only economic measures but also a testament to the government’s dedication to fostering social harmony and economic inclusion. “These initiatives are a manifestation of our commitment to supporting the people and a sign of appreciation for the togetherness of all races in Malaysia in building a more peaceful and prosperous country,” he stated.
Through these carefully crafted measures, KPDN seeks to bolster the nation’s economic foundation by empowering local enterprises, easing consumer burdens, and enhancing public services — all integral to Malaysia’s continued growth and unity.
