Tapestry Sues Shein Over Counterfeit Coach Products
Luxury brand Coach owner Tapestry alleges Shein sold "knockoff" products globally
Tapestry, the owner of luxury brand Coach, files a lawsuit against Chinese fast-fashion e-retailer Shein for trademark infringement, counterfeiting, and unfair competition. The lawsuit claims Shein designs, manufactures, and sells products "substantially similar" or "confusingly similar" to Coach trademarks.
The lawsuit alleges that Shein allows third-party sellers to post product listings on its marketplace without clear indication of the product's origin. Some products are even marketed as "100% authentic" without verification from Coach. Tapestry is seeking damages and injunctive relief, citing annual sales volume of over $4 billion for Coach products.
Shein has responded, stating that all products identified in the litigation complaint are certified authentic and have been verified by the sellers. The company claims to actively enforce strict anti-counterfeit policies through robust monitoring and advanced technology.
This lawsuit is part of a growing trend of brands taking resale marketplaces to court, with Nike recently winning a case against sneaker reseller StockX for selling counterfeit Nike shoes. Shein has faced multiple high-profile IP infringement lawsuits involving leading brands like Ralph Lauren, Dr. Martens and Levi Strauss.
