Lord Peter Goldsmith KC, PC, joined Debevoise & Plimpton in 2007 and serves as London Co-Managing Partner as well as Chair of the firm’s European and Asian litigation practices. A leading barrister and arbitrator, he has extensive experience in international arbitration, commercial litigation, public international law, and regulatory defense.

He served as the UK Attorney General from 2001 to 2007, acting as the government’s chief legal adviser on domestic, European, and international law, and has argued landmark cases before the UK’s highest courts, including the House of Lords and Privy Council. Previously, he was a prominent silk at Fountain Court Chambers, specializing in commercial and international disputes.

Widely recognized for his advocacy and strategic insight, Lord Goldsmith is ranked by Chambers & Partners and Lawdragon among the world’s top litigators and arbitrators. A committed pro bono advocate, he founded the Bar of England & Wales’ Pro Bono Unit and has led landmark human rights cases. He is a Life Peer, a member of the Privy Council, and holds a double first in law from Cambridge University and a master’s degree from University College London.
