Charles Laubach has been practicing as a legal consultant in the UAE since 1986, bringing over three decades of experience advising on corporate law, government procurements, project finance, employment, and international trade controls. He has played a key role in numerous high-value financing and refinancing transactions and offers specialized expertise in US, UN, and other sanctions, boycotts, export controls, and anti-bribery compliance, including the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.
Charles has been deeply involved in the UAE’s landmark infrastructure projects, notably since the privatization of Abu Dhabi’s power and water sector in the 1990s, including the Taweelah A-1 and A-2 projects and the UAE’s first Sharia-compliant asset-backed securitization. He advises major international defense contractors on UAE legal matters, compliance with the Khalifa Directive, and offset program obligations.
He has authored the standard UAE law opinions for ICMA and ISLA financial agreements, facilitating complex financial transactions within the UAE. Charles also provides comprehensive employment law advice, from documentation and incentive schemes to restructuring and disputes.
He is admitted to the Pennsylvania and District of Columbia Bars and is fluent in English, Arabic, French, and Urdu.
