Charbel M. Maakaron is a Partner based in Doha and the managing partner of Crowell & Moring’s Middle East headquarters. He is recognized as a leading figure in Qatar’s legal community, with deep knowledge of Qatari legislation and a pragmatic, adaptive approach to problem-solving that clients rely on. Charbel advises both local and international entities on a wide range of matters, including corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, hospitality, regulatory compliance, commercial transactions, corporate structuring, finance and securities, commercial litigation, and capital markets.
He is highly regarded by clients for his forward-thinking and creative approach to resolving legal issues, providing timely and pragmatic solutions while safeguarding their business interests. Charbel also advises government clients on legislative projects and has contributed to the development of numerous laws and regulations in Qatar and neighboring countries.
Before joining Crowell, Charbel was the managing partner at an international law firm’s Doha office and previously worked at a leading Beirut law firm, where he gained significant experience in complex civil and commercial litigation as well as corporate and business matters.
Charbel holds an LL.B. from Lebanese University (2002) and an LL.M. in International Commercial Law from the University of Bristol (2003). He is admitted to practice in Beirut and is active in professional organizations, serving as Chairman of the ICC Qatar Arbitration Commission and participating in the American Chamber of Commerce in Qatar, the German Business Council Qatar, and the Overseas Security Advisory Council in Qatar. He is fluent in English and Arabic.
