Alex is an experienced lawyer specialising in complex commercial arbitrations, with a particular focus on construction and engineering disputes. He is recognised for his practical, approachable, and down-to-earth style when working with clients, combining sharp analytical thinking with creativity to develop effective solutions to both legal and factual challenges.

Alex has extensive experience representing clients in international arbitration proceedings under major institutional rules, including the ICC, and has worked with clients across multiple jurisdictions and sectors. He has previously collaborated with Mat, including advising a joint venture of contractors on one of the largest infrastructure projects in Qatar.

His recent work includes advising an EPC contractor in relation to threatened ICC arbitration proceedings in London concerning disputes with the owner and lenders over the construction of an oil refinery in North-East Africa. He has also acted for a Chinese contractor in an ICC arbitration seated in Singapore, arising out of a dispute under Singapore law regarding the construction of a major chemical plant in North America.

Alex has represented an employer defending an ICC arbitration brought by a contractor on an oil pipeline project in Yemen, involving claims for standby costs due to alleged suspension and force majeure, while also pursuing substantial counterclaims for late completion and non-performance. Additionally, he has acted on behalf of an owner in a dispute with a German engineering company concerning the delayed completion of a complex chemical process plant in the UK.
