Emma is an experienced dispute resolution lawyer specialising in complex cross-border and domestic disputes arising from major projects in the energy, natural resources, construction, power, and infrastructure sectors. She has particular expertise in commercial disputes connected to upstream oil and gas projects, as well as power and waste-to-energy developments.
Throughout her career, Emma has represented a diverse range of clients, including national and international oil and gas companies, power producers and purchasers, asset managers, construction companies, and contractors. She is highly experienced in various forms of dispute resolution, including commercial litigation, arbitration, expert determination, adjudication, and mediation. Emma also holds Higher Rights of Audience in the English Courts, allowing her to act as an advocate in higher court proceedings. She has undertaken extended secondments with two major energy companies, gaining valuable industry insight and commercial understanding.
Her recent work includes representing an international oil and gas exploration company in ICC arbitration proceedings against a joint venture partner concerning the allocation of participating interests under a Middle Eastern Production Sharing Contract (PSC). She has also acted for a state-owned power provider in a multi-billion-dollar dispute with neighbouring state-owned energy companies over breaches of a long-term gas supply agreement and related guarantees. Additionally, Emma has represented an independent power provider in expedited ICC proceedings against a defaulting natural gas supplier, and advised on termination rights.
Emma’s other notable matters include acting for a global commodities company in two high-value ICC arbitrations concerning civil works obligations, representing a renewable energy engineering and construction firm in Danish arbitration proceedings over professional negligence, and advising an offshore engineering and construction company in a UNCITRAL arbitration related to the installation of drilling platform components offshore Turkmenistan."
