Dr. Jakob Valvoda is a German and European Patent Attorney, European Trade Mark and Design Attorney, and a registered Representative before the Unified Patent Court (UPC). A partner at BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT, he specializes in the protection of software and computer-implemented inventions, advising clients across a wide range of high-tech industries including cryptography, data mining, media technologies, computer graphics, user interaction, and network systems.
Jakob has extensive experience in patent prosecution, opposition, and appeal proceedings before the German Patent and Trade Mark Office (DPMA), the European Patent Office (EPO), and the German Federal Patent Court. He is also active in patent litigation and nullity actions, and advises on issues related to open source software and internet copyright infringement.
He holds a Diplom in Computer Science from RWTH Aachen University and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL). His doctoral research at RWTH Aachen focused on interactive immersive media and real-time simulation of virtual human models for medical applications.
Since joining BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT in 2008, Jakob has become a recognized expert at the intersection of law and advanced computing. He is a member of the German Computer Science Society (GI), GRUR, and the Licensing Executives Society (LES).
