Andrew Mackenzie is a Partner and Head of Litigation, Arbitration, and Investigations for DLA Piper in the Middle East, leading a Tier 1 ranked dispute resolution practice that comprises eight partners and 52 dispute associates.

Andrew’s practice covers contentious crypto and digital assets, fraud, financial services, white-collar crime, construction, engineering, commodities, and energy disputes. He regularly advises on cross-border and in-country enforcement actions and has significant experience in global asset recovery strategies. He has represented leading clients in the oil and gas, renewable energy, technology, financial services, and infrastructure sectors.

He has tried cases in all major arbitration forums, including ICSID, SCCA, ICC, LCIA, SIAC, ADCCAC, UNCITRAL, AAA, and DIAC, and holds full rights of audience before the DIFC and ADGM Courts. Andrew also sits as an arbitrator and frequently writes and presents at international conferences on arbitration, enforcement, and financial disputes. His client-centric and commercial approach has earned consistent recognition from leading directories and clients, who highlight his “relentless tenacity and absolute client focus” as well as his “exceptional knowledge” and strong commitment.

Andrew has acted on major construction and energy disputes, including representing an unincorporated joint venture in a DIAC arbitration over the Dubai International Terminal 3 valued at over USD 1 billion, acting for the Royal BAM Group in DIFC Court proceedings concerning the Dubai Museum of the Future, and representing a global oil and gas contractor in LCIA arbitration on a major oil pipeline project.

He is admitted as a Solicitor with the Law Society of Scotland, a Barrister in England and Wales, and a Solicitor-Advocate in England and Wales. Andrew holds an LLB with honours from the University of Glasgow and a Diploma in Legal Practice from the University of Strathclyde. He is a member of the Law Society of England & Wales, the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn, the Society of Construction Law (Middle East), and the LCIA Council. He has also contributed to advocacy education, leading and judging for the Children’s Rights Moot Court Competition at Leiden University.
