F. John Matouk is the Founding Partner of Matouk Bassiouny and leads the firm’s New York office, International Dispute Resolution Group, and Hospitality sector practice. A New York-qualified attorney with over twenty-five years of experience across the Middle East and North Africa, John advises and represents clients in complex cross-border disputes and international arbitration under the rules of major institutions such as ICSID, ICC, and CRCICA.
He has successfully represented leading multinational corporations including Uber, Volkswagen Group, Sony Pictures, Union Fenosa Gas, ArcelorMittal, and Mitsubishi Motors in high-value commercial, regulatory, and investment disputes. John is also known for his ability to achieve clients’ commercial goals through strategic negotiation and amicable settlement.
John holds a Juris Doctor (with honors) from George Washington University Law School, an LL.M. from Cairo University, and a Bachelor of Arts (with high honors) in International Relations and Literary Theory from Yale University. He is a member of the New York State Bar Association, International Bar Association, ABA Rule of Law Initiative (Egypt Advisory Board), ICC Arab Arbitration Group, Young Presidents’ Organization, and the American Chamber of Commerce.
