Omar S. Bassiouny is a Founding Partner of Matouk Bassiouny and leads the firm’s Corporate and M&A practice group, the cornerstone of the firm’s operations, as well as its Private Equity sector. With extensive experience in public and private M&A, capital markets, and cross-border transactions, Omar advises leading sovereign wealth funds, private equity investors, multinational corporations, and regional family offices on complex and high-value deals across Egypt and the wider MENA region.

He has advised on landmark transactions, including Mubadala Petroleum’s USD 934 million acquisition of a stake in the Zohr gas field, Amazon’s acquisition of Souq.com, and Valeant Pharmaceuticals’ USD 800 million acquisition of Amoun Pharmaceutical. His transactional portfolio also includes advising on major takeovers, divestments, and strategic mergers across energy, healthcare, education, and consumer sectors

Omar holds a License en Droit from Cairo University and a Bachelor of Arts in Public and International Law from the American University in Cairo. He is a member of the Egyptian Bar Association, American Chamber of Commerce, Egyptian Private Equity Association, British Egyptian Business Association, and the Egyptian Junior Business Association.
