Uma Nagarajan is a Partner of Gagrats, Mumbai. She holds a Bachelor of Academic Laws and an LLB from Bangalore University with First Class Honours, and an LLM in Business Laws from the National Law School of India University, Bangalore, with a First Class.
Uma also obtained PG Diplomas in Intellectual Property Rights from the National Law School of India University, Bangalore and in Aviation Law and Air Transport Management from the National Academy of Legal Studies and Research University, Hyderabad.
Uma is a Member of the Bombay Bar Association, the International Bar Association and is an Advocate of the High Court of Bombay.
Her Practice Areas cover Aviation, Capital Markets, Corporate (M&A), Competition Law, Energy, Finance Laws, Foreign Investment, Private Equity, Regulatory Laws, Restructuring, Insolvency & Bankruptcy, Securities Laws, TMT and White Collar Crimes.
Uma has been involved in several significant M&A deals, stake sales, PE deals, Securities Offerings and cross border financings, including aviation financings involving US Exim Bank and the Export Credit Agency of the EU. She has represented leading airlines, publicly listed companies, foreign corporations and international organisations, across different sectors.
For several of Uma’s Practice Areas and her work, the Firm is the recipient of awards, including the 2024 Outstanding Lawyers Award, 2024 Aviation Legal Experts Award and Aviation Law Firm of the Year Award, the 2024 and 2023 M&A Law Award, 2024 and 2023 Banking and Finance Law Firm of the Year Award, 2022 Capital Markets Law Firm of the Year Award, and many others.
Uma’s work has been internationally recognized - she is listed in publications including Legal 500 and has been involved in deals for which the Firm has received awards and recognition including from the India Business Law Journal and Acquisition International.
