Khoda municipality passed a proposal on November 6 regarding levying of taxes in the area and has sought response from residents.
Municipality Chairperson Reena Bhati had objected to the proposal. The issue therefore became the bone of contention between the Government and the Municipality. She was even issued a show-cause notice by the governor, as her conduct was “in contravention of the law”.
Following that, objections, if any, have been invited from residents within 30 days,” said K K Bhadana, Executive Officer of the civic agency. On least four occasions earlier, Municipality Chairperson Reena Bhati had scuttled moves to include a proposal of imposing house tax in the area. According to sources, her opposition to house tax was because she felt that the move would prove counter-productive and unsettle her voters.
