Global steel giant ArcelorMittal has completed the acquisition of Essar Steel and formed a joint venture with Nippon Steel to own and operate the debt-ridden firm. According to a statement, ArcelorMittal will have a 60 percent stake in the new venture – ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India Ltd.
S & R Associates represented ArcelorMittal in its joint acquisition of Rs. 502.31 billion (approximately US$7.21 billion) with Nippon Steel of Essar Steel India Limited under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016 (IBC).
The corporate team included partners Rajat Sethi, Sandip Bhagat, Sudip Mahapatra and Prachi Goel, and associates Vidhi Sharma, Srimukundan R, Sushmita Sur, Soumalya Saha and Sonal Bhargava.
The litigation team included Counsel Shahezad Kazi, and associates Misha Chandna, Aditi Agarwal and Raveena Dhawan. The competition law team included Simran Dhir, head of competition practice, and associates Dhruv Agarwal and Ishika Rout.
