Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Secretary Ashok Arora has called for a general meeting on May 11 via video conferencing, of which one of the agendas is the ouster of Senior Advocate Dushyant Dave from the President post. Dave has termed the move as illegal and improper. According to Arora, the meeting has been called to discuss the removal of Dushyant Dave from the post of President of SCBA, and from the primary membership of the SCBA “for working against the interests of the Bar.”
The meeting is called invoking Rule 22 of the SCBA Rules for the purpose of considering various points of agenda.
Several members of the SCBA have allegedly objected to a resolution passed by the SCBA in February this year concerning the condemnation of statements made by Justice Arun Mishra in praise of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the International Judicial Conference conducted last February. The meeting is also set to address the agenda for withdrawing this resolution as well.
Dushyant Dave responded sharply and asserted that he shall continue to serve as the President of SCBA till the end of his tenure. He termed Arora’s actions as “illegal and improper” as “well as wrong and unfortunate”. Dave further stated that he has been elected by the SCBA members and only those members will have the power to oust him from his post as the President and not by any individual having some personal agenda.
