T-Series sues Roposo for alleged copyright infringement

Roposo – a short-video app owned by advertising technology company InMobi is facing a copyright infringement lawsuit filed by Music label T-Series in the Delhi High Court. The lawsuit has also named Roposo investors Tiger Global and Bertelsmann.

It has been alleged in the lawsuit that Roposo has “blatantly, extensively and wilfully” infringed on T-Series’ copyrighted works. T-Series has sought a permanent injunction to stop Roposo from using its copyright material.

According to T-Series president Neeraj Kalyan, Roposo app is infringing under the user-generated content and alleged that Roposo offered the copyrighted works of T-Series in their library and enticed users to upload content owned by T-Series in exchange for cash rewards. He further said that their venture capitalists have not done due diligence.

T-Series has further alleged that Roposo has been actively providing and populating its app with the music label’s (T-Series) copyrighted works through the provision of a specially curated ‘Music Library’ and extracting songs from user devices and using such songs for commercial gain. Moreover, it is alleged that Roposo is removing the rights management information pertaining to its copyrighted songs in the ‘Music Library’ and knowingly distributing, broadcasting and communicating the infringing copies to the public.

T-Series recently signed a licence agreement with regional language social media platform ShareChat. Last year, T-Series had filed a copyright infringement case against ShareChat.
