Verizon-Amazon Web Services pact to expand fiber network and power AI apps

Deepens their long-standing association on private mobile edge computing

American telecommunications company Verizon has entered a deal with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to build high-capacity fiber routes connecting AWS data centers. This will strengthen infrastructure for the next generation of artificial intelligence (AI) applications.

Under the Verizon AI Connect pact, the telecom giant will construct long-haul, low-latency fiber pathways. The agreement deepens Verizon's long-standing strategic relationship with AWS, including joint work on private mobile edge computing and Verizon's adoption of AWS as a preferred cloud provider.

The partnership highlights the cloud and telecom giants’ race to meet the surging data and network demands from generative AI, which requires fast, secure, and resilient connections to process massive workloads.

As telecom operators are being viewed as critical enablers of the emerging AI-driven economy, cloud providers are reporting brisk growth driven by AI functions.

Recently, prominent cloud suppliers, Microsoft, Amazon, and Alphabet, reported accelerating revenue growth driven by the demand for generative AI. Thus, 2026 is seen as a significantly stronger capital spending year.
