Udo Udoma & Belo-Osagie advised Greenlight Planet Sun King Nigeria on landmark blended finance transaction
Udo Udoma & Belo-Osagie (UUBO) advised Greenlight Planet Sun King Nigeria Limited in connection with a Naira-denominated senior debt facility equivalent to approximately US$80 million.
The facility was established by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), acting as the implementing entity of the Renewable Energy Program for Africa (REPA), alongside Stanbic IBTC Bank Limited.
This transaction marks a landmark step in Nigeria’s blended finance landscape, as it combines local currency funding with commercial debt to support inclusive and scalable energy transition projects. It also reinforces REPA’s mandate to promote the deployment of affordable, clean energy solutions across Africa.
The financing will empower Sun King Nigeria Limited to expand the distribution of its solar-powered products—including solar home systems, solar inverter systems, and solar lanterns—to underserved and off-grid communities. This is expected to enhance energy access, promote energy equity, and contribute to Nigeria’s sustainable development and climate resilience goals.
The UUBO team was led by Adeola Sunmola (Partner – Banking & Finance; Energy, Power & Projects) and Joseph Odianosen Eimunjeze (Partner – Banking & Finance), with support from Chisom Okolie (Senior Associate), and Iffy Nnabuenyi, Opeyemi Alexander Adeshina, Uchechukwu Ojimba, and Chinenye Elizabeth Okoro (Associates).
