Google Pays €326 Million To Settle Tax Dispute In Italy
Milan prosecutors have requested the closure of a case against Google Ireland Ltd after the tech giant agreed to pay €326 million ($340 million) in a tax settlement. The payment resolves allegations of unpaid taxes on income generated in Italy between 2015 and 2019, particularly from revenues obtained through selling advertising space.
The investigation, led by Italian authorities, accused Google of failing to declare and pay taxes during this period. Last year, Rome had demanded €1 billion in unpaid taxes and penalties, despite Google having previously settled a major tax dispute with Italian authorities.
In a statement on Wednesday, Milan prosecutors confirmed that Google had paid the agreed amount, covering taxes, fines, and interest, thereby resolving the outstanding matter with the Italian tax authorities. Consequently, they have submitted a request to a judge to dismiss the criminal proceedings related to the case.
