Addleshaw Goddard Bolsters Construction & Engineering Team with Appointment of Contentious Expert

Addleshaw Goddard (AG), a UK-based law firm, has recently appointed two key hires to strengthen its teams. Anthony Willis has been appointed as a partner in its Construction & Engineering team, while Catherine Williams has re-joined the firm's Real Estate team, becoming Co-head of Housing (Living) alongside Peter Hardy.

Clarissa Smith was also appointed in November last year to its Divisional Real Estate team, bringing with her expertise in construction and engineering disputes and risk management. She joined AG from Trowers & Hamlins.

Willis specialises in providing operational support and advice on dispute avoidance/resolution for distressed construction, engineering, and infrastructure projects.

He has a wide range of experience working across the construction supply chain and different sectors, such as the built environment, energy, transport, logistics, water, and waste. Before joining AG, Willis was a partner at Brabners and DLA Piper.

The Construction & Engineering team at Addleshaw Goddard is widely recognised as a top-tier practice renowned for delivering reliable and inventive counsel for high-stakes, large-scale ventures.

Boasting a client roster that few firms can rival, the Addleshaw Goddard team provides strategic guidance on intricate structuring solutions, risk mitigation, and all aspects of project management. Notably, the team has advised on major projects such as the Battersea Power Station and Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust redevelopments in the recent past.

The dispute resolution arm of the team has gained a reputation for spearheading high-profile international arbitrations and a PFI disputes practice that dominates the market. The team is regularly involved in intricately challenging disputes worldwide, such as those in Bangladesh, Turkey, Uganda, Indonesia, and throughout the Middle East.

Anthony Willis has joined the Construction & Engineering team as its 25th partner. The firm has a dedicated team of 100 construction lawyers with expertise spread across the firm's 17 offices.

Addleshaw Goddard has expanded its footprint with the launch of four new offices in Dublin, Luxembourg, Frankfurt, and Munich. Additionally, the firm's gross revenue grew by 18 per cent in August.

With 48 FTSE100 clients under its belt, Addleshaw Goddard has established itself as a top performer in the Thompson Reuter's UK Law Firm Brand Index, ranking within the Top 10.

Nancy McGuire, Divisional Managing Partner in Real Estate at Addleshaw Goddard, said: "Anthony has fantastic experience advising on a range of cross-sector disputes. His appointment helps us to continue to maintain and build a strong presence across international real estate, infrastructure and energy markets."
