Kirkland & Ellis Strengthens Insurance Practice with New Partner in US

Global law firm Kirkland & Ellis recently announced that prominent insurance M&A and reinsurance attorney Jack D. Yamin has joined the firm as a partner. The move comes as insurance continues to be a strategic focus for many of the firm’s asset management and corporate clients.

Jack brings a wealth of experience in, and deep knowledge of, insurance transactions, and we are excited to add him to our team,” Jon A. Ballis, Chairman of Kirkland’s Executive Committee, said.

Yamin’s legal practice centres around corporate, securities, and regulatory matters within the insurance, reinsurance, and financial services industries. His clientele includes both public and private corporate clients, private equity sponsors, and other alternative asset managers. Yamin’s expertise extends to insurance industry transactions in the United States and globally, covering areas such as acquisitions, divestitures, and reinsurance. He also plays a crucial role in the formation, capitalisation, and financing of insurance companies and related ventures. Over the past decade, Yamin has been involved in many of the most significant insurance industry transactions.

Joining a diverse and multidisciplinary team at Kirkland, Yamin will provide counsel to clients navigating transactions in the insurance industry and addressing related regulatory matters.

Corporate partner Rajab Abbassi, who specialises in insurance transactions and regulatory practice, praised Yamin’s dynamic approach and extensive experience. “Jack is a dynamic and talented M&A attorney with extensive experience in the insurance industry, including in the areas and types of transactions on which our clients have increasingly been focused,” Rajab Abbassi said. “His knowledge, skills and experience will be an asset to our clients who transact and operate in the insurance industry.”

In response to his new role, Yamin expressed excitement about contributing to Kirkland’s work in the insurance industry. He highlighted the firm’s global platform and its commitment to delivering exceptional client service. Before joining Kirkland, Yamin was a partner at Sidley Austin LLP in Chicago. His educational background includes degrees from Binghamton University and the Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law. His previous experience also includes work as a tax consultant in Chicago.
