The energy-focused US law firm Baker Botts no longer has a presence in Asia, as it closed its physical office in Hong Kong.

Until last year, the Houston-headquartered Baker Botts had two offices in Asia: While the Hong Kong office was opened in 2005, the Beijing office was launched in 2007.

The firm downed shutters on its Beijing office last year. It continues to maintain offices in Dubai and Riyadh in the Middle East, and Moscow, Brussels and London in Europe, apart from seven offices in the US.

The firm's last resident partner, Russell Wilkinson, has joined DLA Piper. His practice focuses on energy and infrastructure. He has advised on upstream and midstream petroleum projects, power generation and transmission projects.

Wilkinson's move means that the firm has continued its recent streak of lateral hires in Hong Kong. DLA has added intellectual property and fintech expert Kristi Swartz and capital markets specialist George Wu.
