Eaton promotes Taras Szmagala as CLO

Taras Szmagala takes up top legal position at American-Irish power management giant after 15 years.

He has been appointed as the company's Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer

Taking over from April Miller Boise as CLO, Taras 'Terry' Szmagala Jr has served as a number of roles, including deputy general counsel and senior vice president of public and community affairs and corporate communications since joining the company in 2007.

At Eaton's Cleveland, Ohio administrative center, Szmagala will serve as counsel to the company's executive management team and board, leading its global legal team as well as its corporate governance and compliance functions. According to Craig Arnold, he will report to the CEO.

Prior to joining Avery Dennison, Szmagala worked for private practice in Cleveland, Ohio, Washington DC, and Kyiv, Ukraine for Squire Patton Boggs.

Meanwhile, Nancy Berardinelli-Krantz has been promoted to assistant chief legal officer. She reports to Szmagala. After spending more than a decade at Eaton, she held senior legal positions at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, where she served as senior legal counsel.

Previously, she worked at Jones Day's trial practice and government regulation group in Cleveland and Washington DC before joining Eaton in 2011.

Previously, Berardinelli-Krantz led Eaton's electrical and industrial sectors' business legal teams, and the company said she would continue to manage the departments' legal teams with Szmagala.

The company has been listed on the NYSE for almost a century, and it reported revenue of $19.6 billion in 2021. There are more than 170 countries in which the company serves customers.

It was announced earlier this month that Miller Boise would be joining Intel as executive vice president and chief legal officer after spending two and a half years as the company's top lawyer. Upon joining Intel early next month, she will lead the company's global legal, trade and government affairs team, replacing Steven Rodgers, who retired this year after more than two decades.
