Former Slaughter and May partner, ex-Attorney General as lawyers from Hogan Lovells and Norton Rose Fulbright along with Ince's brand ambassador, receive awards

In Queen Elizabeth II's birthday honours, Nigel Boardman, ex-Slaughter and May partner was one of a number of prominent members of the UK legal profession to be recognized, announced to coincide with the monarch's Platinum Jubilee last weekend.

Boardman, previous corporate partner was knighted for his services to the legal profession. Since 1973, he is the pillar of the Magic Circle firm, who was partner in 1982 and became a consultant leaving the partnership in 2019, chairing the firm's Africa practice, before retiring in April 2022.

Boardman acted on several major deals and restructurings during his 45-year career graph with Slaughter & May. It includes a famous takeover defence of UK retailer Marks and Spencer and counselling the then-government during the global financial crisis on the recapitalisation of the banking system.

Shell, Vodafone, BHP Billiton and Reuters are the other regular clients he dealt with. Following the downfall of Greensill Capital Boardman, he also led an independent review into the conduct of former Prime Minister David Cameron and others.

Wishing very best for Nigel's future accomplishments, Slaughter's managing partner, Deborah Finkler applauded Nigel on his knighthood and thanked him for his extensive contributions to the firm during his tenure.

Previous Attorney General, Jeremy Wright QC MP was also knighted. Serving as culture secretary previously, Wright is a member of Birmingham's No. 5 Chambers, was also the government's chief legal adviser from 2014-18.

Consultant to Ince Group Ramesh Vala, has also received the CBE. He was been awarded an OBE previously for his charitable work in 2001 after raising more than £1.5m for various charitable services. Vala, Ince's brand ambassador was particularly honoured for his work during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Senior consultant, Norton Rose Fulbright, a Shipping lawyer Harry Theochari, was also honoured for his endeavors to the maritime industry. Delighted Peter Scott, the firm's EMEA managing partner for the work and efforts of Harry Theochari been recognised with an OBE, highly praised mentioning that Harry is a genius of the legal shipping world. He has contributed a vast amount to the industry over the decades.

Senior counsel and chair of international firm Hogan Lovells' Africa practice, Andrew Skipper received an MBE for services to British trade and investment in Africa for successive governments. Retired as a partner in January 2022, Skipper has handed over leadership of the Africa practice after seven years to Paris partner Olivier Fille-Lambie and London's Arun Velusami.

"Especially, I am happy that this recognition relates to my work in Africa, a continent I regard significantly, which I know will be the center of thrilling global growth in coming years," he mentioned.

Skipper was involved in developing Hogan Lovell's strong referral network of law firms across Anglophone and Francophone Africa. He was also being powerful in delicately ending Hogan Lovells' six-year association with former practice Routledge Modise in 2019 before re-introducing the Johannesburg office as an entirely combined South Africa practice. In 2021, from Pinsent Masons, the office hired its first lateral partner.
