The Kolhapur city police have initiated a number of law and order measures to launch stringent laws in the upcoming year.

More than 50 gangs operating in Kolhapur district have been booked under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA), this year. The city police have geared up to book more gangs under MCOCA after cracking the whip on private moneylenders this year.

There have been instances when the police and co-operative departments have taken joint action against private money-lenders thereby encouraging people to come forward to lodge complaints.

The newly-launched cyber police station is set to take off in 2020 through modern technology and trained staff. The police have decided to expand the cybercrime cell at the district headquarters into a separate police station considering the rise in online fraud cases, and the rise in cheating through social networking and e-commerce websites, siphoning-off of cash from the bank accounts.

The cybercrime teams will initiate investigations in connection with the crime and a team of experts will dedicatedly work to nab the criminals.

The Kolhapur district recently secured the top rank in Maharashtra state for effectively using CCTNS (Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and System) in daily police work. The CCTNS is a country-wide police system that aims to connect 14,000 police stations and 6,000 offices of top police officers across the country through an online network to enable real-time sharing of information on crimes and criminals.

Apart from these, the police has already set up Nirbhaya squads to keep a check on people who harass women and have launched several helplines for women travelling at night. These services and facilities will continue next year too.
