Dr MS Sahoo: Founder, former Chairperson of IBBI joins NLU Delhi as Professor

Dr MS Sahoo, an expert in the area of securities markets, has held positions at CCI, SEBI and NSE.

Since December 20, 2021, Dr MS Sahoo, Founder and former Chairperson of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI), has become a Distinguished Professor at National Law University, Delhi.

As Distinguished Professor, Sahoo will teach, research, conceptualize, and design programmes relating to regulatory studies. He is an expert in the securities markets and a distinguished public servant.

The National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) has appointed him as Economic Advisor. He has served as a member of the Competition Commission of India (CCI), Secretary of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India, Whole Time Member of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). He has held senior positions in the Indian Government and had a brief legal career.

In addition to major reforms like the dematerialization of securities in 1995, setting up of the National Institute of Securities Markets (2004), establishing of IBBI (2016) and developing corporate and individual insolvency framework (2017, 2019), Sahoo has also played a key role in the architecture of regulators and regulatory tribunals in 1995, trading of derivatives in 1999 and online examination for market professionals in 2000, among others. The securities jurisprudence, including his landmark orders, disgorgement and settlement of securities market infractions, has been significantly impacted by his work.
