Bharti Airtel has written to the Department of Telecom (DoT) that it will not pay any adjusted gross revenue (AGR) arrears until the Supreme Court hears its modification petition.

Vodafone Idea has also conveyed a similar message to the DoT.

None of the telecom companies will pay as the January 23 deadline ends as per the October 24 Supreme Court order and will wait until the outcome of the court hearing.

Incidentally, Airtel’s AGR dues are Rs 35,586 crore and Vodafone Idea has to pay Rs 52,039 crore.

Vodafone Idea, Bharti Telecom and Tata Teleservices have to pay a total Rs 1.02 lakh crore in AGR-related dues.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had agreed to hear modification pleas filed by Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea to allow them to negotiate with the DoT about conditions and payment schedules of the statutory dues.

The Supreme Court had rejected a review petition filed by telecom companies on its October verdict, which had widened the definition of AGR.
