The multi-billion-dollar Artificial Intelligence (AI) startup, OpenAI, has announced establishing its presence in India by opening an office in New Delhi.
The Sam Altman-led ChatGPT developer stated that the move reflected the company’s support for IndiaAI Mission.
Sam Altman, CEO, OpenAI, remarked, “The level of excitement and opportunity for AI in India is incredible. It has all the ingredients to become a global AI leader – amazing tech talent, a world-class developer ecosystem and strong government support through the IndiaAI Mission. Opening our first office and building a local team is an important step in our commitment to make advanced AI more accessible across the country and to build AI for India and with India.”
India is OpenAI’s second-largest market and one of the fastest-growing, after the US.
In 2024, ChatGPT users in India increased fourfold, and it has the largest population of students worldwide.
While OpenAI is yet to confirm the location of the office in New Delhi, the company has begun hiring a local team and established its presence in the country.
