In order to contain the spread of the Coronavirus oandemic in India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the extension of lockdown in the country until 3 May, 2020. He also stated that India has been successful in containing the spread of the pandemic to a large extent because of the lockdown.
More stringent measures would be implemented across the country and an extensive scrutiny will be done till April 20 of all the blocks, districts and states as to how strictly the norms are being implemented. The areas where the spread of Coronavirus has been contained or prevented would be subject to a conditional withdrawal of the lockdown from April 20.
Most of the States had asked for continuation of the lockdown and certain states had also extended the lockdown even before the announcement from the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister further added that the areas or places with no increase of hotspots would be allowed to let some important activities resume, subject to certain conditions.
The total number of Coronavirus cases in the country has surged past the 10,000 mark today.
The 21-day national lockdown was scheduled to end today on April 14.
