Gibson Dunn Promotes Sameera Kimatrai to Partner in Dubai
Global law firm Gibson Dunn has promoted Sameera Kimatrai, of counsel, to partner in its Dubai office, effective January 1, 2026. Kimatrai is the only lawyer from the firm’s Middle East offices—including Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Riyadh—to be elevated to partner in this year’s round.
Gibson Dunn promotes 42 lawyers to partnership amid continued global growth.Kimatrai is part of a global cohort of 42 lawyers promoted to partner across Gibson Dunn’s 16 offices, marking the largest partner class in the firm’s history. Around 40% of the new partners are based outside the US, emphasising the firm’s continued commitment to international markets.
Kimatrai specialises in financial regulation, fintech, and digital assets, advising governments, regulators, and financial institutions on complex regulatory matters across the Middle East. She recently led the team advising Binance on securing licences from the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM), making it the first crypto exchange to obtain full authorisation under the ADGM regulatory framework.
Kimatrai has been with Gibson Dunn since May 2023, starting as an Associate Attorney before being promoted to Of Counsel in September 2023. Her previous roles include Senior Legal Counsel at Binance (Apr 2022–May 2023), Senior Associate in Financial Services Regulation at Allen & Overy (Sep 2017–Sep 2021), and Associate in Financial Regulatory Group at Linklaters (Mar 2013–Sep 2017). She also served as a Trainee Solicitor at Linklaters from 2013 to 2015.

Kimatrai holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Cambridge (2008–2011).
