Khaitan & Co advises Mynavi Corp on purchase of stake in HR Media platform People Matters

The Tokyo-headquartered firm has acquired an Indian company as a subsidiary for the first time

One of India’s oldest full-service law firms Khaitan & Co has advised Mynavi Corporation on the purchase of an additional controlling stake in HR Media & Co’s platform People Matters.

Mynavi, a leading human resources services and information media company announced the acquisition of the Gurugram-based People Matters, a fast-growing media platform and community for HR and talent leaders in India and APAC, as a subsidiary.

People Matters provides information on the latest trends, ideas, and knowledge related to HR in its own media products. The company is also known for hosting People Matters TechHR, Asia’s largest HR Tech conferences, in India and Singapore. It has established a dominant position in India by helping professionals in HR, including executives and HR personnel, to find solutions to their challenges.

In a statement, Mynavi said that while experiencing population and economic growth, India, a country producing IT talent, and a hub for startups, has attracted investment from across the world. It has become a central presence in the Asian and global economies, but still, there were significant disparities and social issues that needed to be tackled.

With the acquisition, Mynavi aims to leverage the global insights, brand power, and network of People Matters in the HR field and further expand its business in India and Asia. It also intends to contribute to solving India’s social issues through its business.

The Khaitan & Co deal team included Zakir Merchant (Partner), Nirav Punjani (Principal Associate) and Ayesha Bhattacharya (Associate) with assistance from Satoko Kikuta (Consultant) and Deepak Kumar (Partner) and Ransher Singh (Associate) on employment law aspects of the transaction.
