Fasken Announces Appointment of Gillian Niven as Partner in Johannesburg Office
Fasken is pleased to announce the appointment of Gillian Niven as Partner in its Johannesburg office, joining the Corporate & Commercial Practice Group.
Gillian brings over 15 years of experience as a regulatory lawyer specialising in environmental law, ESG, and sustainability. She has extensive expertise in advising clients across the energy, mining, oil & gas, nuclear, and industrial sectors on environmental compliance and regulatory matters.
Prior to joining Fasken, Gillian served as a Regulatory Attorney at Niven Attorneys and held senior legal roles at Allen & Overy, Webber Wentzel, and Renergen Limited, where she oversaw legal matters for both JSE-listed and renewable energy companies. She has a strong track record in negotiating and drafting commercial agreements, managing regulatory investigations, and advising on ESG and sustainability initiatives.
Gillian holds an LLM in Environmental Law and an LLB from the University of the Witwatersrand, along with practical legal training from the Law Society of South Africa, and a BA in Industrial Psychology.
Her appointment strengthens Fasken’s Corporate & Commercial Practice in South Africa and reflects the firm’s commitment to providing clients with expert guidance in regulatory and environmental matters.
