Stephanie Chan has joined Sidley Austin, an American multinational law firm, as a partner in its China Corporate and Finance Group in Hong Kong.

She has previously worked as a Partner in the Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice at Reed Smith Richards Butler LLP. Chan has been recognised for her work in dispute resolution and has received several awards including being ranked as an Up and Coming lawyer in Dispute Resolution: Litigation by Chambers Greater China Region 2023, and being recognised by Legal 500 Asia-Pacific 2023 in Litigation, Arbitration, Restructuring, and Insolvency. She has also been acknowledged multiple times as a Next Generation Lawyer and Partner in Regulatory by Legal 500 Asia-Pacific.

Chan focuses on contentious regulatory matters, commercial litigation, and international arbitration. She has handled complex disputes across many industry sectors including financial services, mining, real estate, entertainment, energy, and manufacturing.

Her extensive experience incorporates advising multinational and Chinese companies in a broad range of commercial disputes across multiple jurisdictions, with a particular focus on cross-border contractual disputes, joint venture and shareholder disputes, fraud, enforcement of securities, and debt recovery. Chan has particular experience in advising clients in regulatory investigations conducted by regulatory and enforcement authorities including the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, Securities and Futures Commission, Hong Kong Monetary Authority, and Commercial Crime Bureau.

Chan has won recognition for her strong track record in complex cross-border disputes and regulatory matters. Clients also recognise her "great commercial sense," "strong language ability," and "excellent client management," appreciate her "solid legal knowledge" and "strategic advice" in settling "big-money and highly complex dispute," and that "she often goes above and beyond to ensure a positive outcome is achieved," as quoted in Chambers Greater China Region 2023.

She received a Bachelor's degree in Law and a Postgraduate Certificate in Law both from the University of Hong Kong. She is fluent in Cantonese, Mandarin, and English.
