About Ashish Teni
Ashish Teni is a seasoned insurance regulatory and transactional lawyer with over 17 years of experience advising insurers, reinsurers, intermediaries, emerging insurtech platforms, and institutional investors on complex matters within India’s evolving insurance landscape. He is widely recognised for his deep understanding of the regulatory framework governed by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI). His expertise includes cross-border reinsurance structures, distribution models including bancassurance, regulatory compliance, and strategic corporate transactions. His practice also extends to advising on complex claims, regulatory disputes, and appellate proceedings. Over the years, he has been involved in several high-value and strategically significant mandates, including market entry and structuring of insurance and reinsurance businesses in India, joint ventures and investments involving global insurers, and M&A transactions across the life, general, and health insurance sectors.
Experience
Ashish Teni is currently practising independently as a lawyer. Prior to this, he was associated with Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co, where he served as Partner, having previously held positions as Principal Associate and Principal Associate Designate within the firm. Earlier in his career, he was part of Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A Shroff & Co, where he progressed from Associate to Senior Associate, advising on insurance, reinsurance, and corporate advisory matters. He began his professional journey in the in-house sector as a Compliance Manager at ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company Limited, where he gained foundational experience in regulatory compliance within the insurance industry.
Education
Ashish Teni holds a B.A. LL.B. degree from the National Law Institute University, Bhopal. He completed his senior secondary education from St. Thomas Senior Secondary School and is enrolled as a member of the Bar Council of Delhi.
