Beijing has become the first offshore law firm with a presence in the Chinese capital after Ogier opened a representative office there

Over a decade ago, Ogier opened its first office in mainland China when it opened its Shanghai office in 2011. Hong Kong SAR also has an office there.

Davy Guan, an expert in business development for the professional services sector, will run the Beijing office. Over the past 15 years, Guan has worked on tax and merger and acquisition projects involving state-owned enterprises, unicorn companies and financial institutions. His previous experience includes working at consulting companies EY and Mazar.

Guan's role with the firm will be to manage the firm's business development (BD) for legal and corporate administration services, focusing on the markets in northern China.

Ogier offers legal services in BVI, Cayman Islands, Guernsey, Jersey and Luxembourg, that include banking and finance, corporate, dispute resolution, investment funds, private wealth, bankruptcy, tax and restructuring.

A number of transactions involving Chinese companies were handled by Ogier as offshore counsel over the last year. IPOs of Youran Dairy and 51job, as well as the privatization of New Frontier Health, were also announced in Hong Kong.
