Enhances its capabilities of legal tech offerings to customers

Sydney-based business process automation company Checkbox has partnered with PwC Australia NewLaw to broaden the latter's legal-tech offering.

The agreement between the two firms promises to allow PwC Australia customers to access Checkbox's documents and workflow automation capabilities through its no-code platform. This would help in-house legal departments to optimize their processes and accelerate digital transformation programmes without needing any technical skills.

Mike Sheehy, the partner at PwC NewLaw and former Telstra general counsel, said, "Workflow automation is a critical element for in-house legal departments' legal-tech journeys, resolving headaches in managing contracts, triaging inquiries from multiple stakeholders, fulfilling reporting requirements and communicating with the business efficiently."

Sheehy, who joined PwC to set up its Australia new law arm in 2019, added that Checkbox was the firm's first strategic business process automation partner. It had the right cultural fit and the values of the two firms aligned strongly.

Founded in 2016, two years later, Checkbox secured $1.77m in angel investments. Its clients include Telstra, Coca-Cola Euro pacific Partners and Air New Zealand.

Checkbox CEO Evan Wong said: "The biggest challenges that organizations face during digital transformation is not just how to use new technologies, but everything that comes before and after the digital tools are deployed."

"PwC NewLaw has expansive capabilities from ideation workshops, process design and change management. The ongoing expansion and maintenance of those services, plus governance and best practice models, makes it an extremely robust partner."
