Skadden names new global transactions head

Following Simpson's passing away in May, his London partner Lorenzo Corte assumes the position.

Following the passing of Scott Simpson in May, Skadden Arps Meagher & Flom has appointed corporate partner Lorenzo Corte to lead its global transactions group.

Corte co-leads Skadden's London M&A division from his base in the company's London office. According to the New York business, his experience includes contentious takeovers, inversions, private equity deals, de-SPAC deals, and joint ventures.

He takes up Simpson's global responsibilities when Simpson, 65, unexpectedly passed away in May.

Simpson was recognized as one of Europe's most significant M&A attorneys since he participated in some of the most well-known and contentious transactions of the previous two decades.

Corte has worked on several notable transactions since beginning his legal career with the company in 1999, including Intel's $15.3 billion acquisition of Mobileye in 2017. He collaborated with Simpson for many years in London, serving as Arcelor's advisor during its 2006 $33.8 billion mergers with India's Mittal Steel Company.

Corte has also worked on significant M&A transactions for clients like Silver Lake Partners, Blackstone, and Industrial Invest.

Simpson, who joined the expanding London office of the company in 1990 on a temporary assignment and ultimately worked there for 32 years, is credited with helping Skadden become successful in Europe in the 1990s.

Publications like the Financial Times, the Wall Street Journal, and the American acknowledged his stature as one of the most powerful lawyers in Europe.
