The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI ) has sought the permission of a New Delhi court to attach the properties of fugitive jeweller Nirav Modi, his brother Nishal Modi and another accused in the USD 2 billion Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam.

The CBI filed a petition before the CBI Judge that the accused had left the country before the case was registered due to which warrants against them could not be executed.

The CBI petition stated that while Nirav Modi was arrested in London and an extradition process is pending, the whereabouts of his brother Nishal Modi and another accused, Subhash Parab, who was an executive in Nirav Modis company, are still unknown.

Incidentally, Nirav Modi and his uncle Mehul Choksi happen to be the prime accused in the case which is related to alleged fraudulent issuance of Letters of Undertaking which caused a loss of more than USD 2 billion to the government owned Punjab National Bank (PNB).
