Federal Finance and Corporate Affairs Ministers Nirmala Sitharaman recently inaugurated Regional Office of the Competition Commission of India (CCI) in Chennai.

Sitharaman virtually inaugurated the CCI's Regional Office on 26 February in the presence of her deputy Anurag Singh Thakur, Rajesh Verma, Secretary Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Ashok Kumar Gupta, Chairperson CCI, CCI members Dr Sangeeta Verma and B.S. Bishnoi, S. Ghosh Dastidar, Secretary, CCI and officers of CCI.

CCI chairperson Ashok Kumar Gupta welcomed Finance Minister and expressed his gratitude for inaugurating the Chennai Office. He emphasised that the Regional Office in Chennai is a step towards augmenting CCI's regional presence and fulfil its duties as a federal regulator by engaging closely with States being important stakeholders in fostering greater competition in the economy.

CCI's Chennai Office will cater to the southern states like Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka besides the Union Territories Puducherry and Lakshadweep and act as an office to facilitate enforcement, investigation, advocacy function in coordination with the Delhi office.

While speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Sitharaman underlined the need for the CCI to become a facilitator in economic growth and development.

Inauguration of the Regional Office in Chennai will help cut down the workload of the CCI main office in New Delhi and help those seeking redressal considering lots of money and time is wasted while traveling to New Delhi on each date of hearing.
