Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the Supreme Court that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is waiting to arrest Karti Chidambaram, son of senior Congress leader P Chidambaram, who was also present in the courtroom during the hearing on the bail application of his father.

Mehta arguing before a three-judge Supreme Court bench headed by Justice R Banumathi said the investigating agency is waiting for lifting of Delhi High Court stay on the arrest of Karti. He insisted that Karti has challenged few provisions of Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in the Delhi High Court.

Mehta reiterated before the Supreme Court that a stay has been imposed on Karti’s arrest by the Delhi High Court, and once it is lifted, he would be arrested in the INX Media case.

Mehta was arguing against bail to P Chidambaram before the Supreme Court, and during the course of the argument he explained that a complex design was adopted to stop tracing of laundered money.

Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for Chidambaram, contested this ED's argument that he has been unfairly kept in judicial custody for nearly 100 days because he is the father of Karti, who is a key accused in the case.

Chidambaram was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on August 21 in the INX Media corruption case and on October 22 he was granted bail by the Supreme Court.
