Amarendra Sharan, Former Additional Solicitor General of India (ASG) passed away on the wee hours of 12 August 2019 in Rishikesh due to heart attack.

Amarendra Sharan joined the Bar in August, 1975 and started practicing in the Patna High Court. He started his practice in the Supreme Court in 1981 and was designated a Senior Advocate in the year 2000.

He had served as the Additional Solicitor General of India from August 2004 to June 2009. He was also appointed as special counsel by CBI to represent it before the Supreme Court in the Coalgate case.

He has also acted as amicus curiae on issues such as the case related to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and also in the plea seeking re-probe of the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi.
