Adnan Sundra & Low Expands Disputes Strategy with Launch of Employment Practice in Malaysia
The leading full-service law firm based in Kuala Lumpur, Adnan Sundra & Low (ASL) has launched a dedicated employment advisory and litigation practice as part of its broader disputes strategy, appointing Rohan Arasoo Jeyabalah as an equity partner to lead the new team.
The launch reflects ASL’s focus on expanding its specialist disputes capabilities amid the growing importance of employment and industrial relations issues for its clients. Putri Norlisa Najib, Joint Managing Partner at ASL, said the decision aligns with the firm’s response to evolving regulatory and enforcement dynamics in Malaysia’s employment landscape.
“With the recent amendments to the Employment Act 1955, expanding employer obligations and increased enforcement exposure, we see an opportunity to support clients who now face more complex workforce-management risks,” Najib said.
She noted that the expanded scope of the Employment Act, mandatory flexible-work request procedures, enhanced employee protections and more assertive regulatory enforcement have created new compliance challenges for employers.
“Clients increasingly require practical and defensible solutions, whether in managing investigations, handling dismissals, navigating collective bargaining, or implementing compliant HR frameworks that align statutory requirements with business realities,”Najib added.
Rohan Arasoo Jeyabalah joins ASL from Harold & Lam Partnership, where he was a partner for over a decade. He specialises in employment and industrial relations law, and also advises on construction and engineering disputes, as well as civil and commercial litigation including contractual, land, tortious, banking and financial disputes, defamation and debt recovery.
He has appeared before all levels of the Malaysian judiciary, including the Industrial Court, and has acted as counsel in arbitration proceedings and adjudication disputes under the Construction Industry Payment and Adjudication Act 2012.
In addition to leading the new employment practice, Jeyabalah will work closely with Kevin Prakash, head of ASL’s construction and engineering disputes practice, reflecting the overlap in their areas of expertise.
Adnan Sundra & Low (ASL) is one of the ten largest full-service law firms in Malaysia, headquartered in Kuala Lumpur. Established in 1975, the firm has built a strong reputation for delivering comprehensive legal services across key practice areas and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2025.
