The prominent, full-service Malaysian corporate and commercial law firm, Azmi & Associates is pleased to announce the appointment of Ahmad Hafiz Zubir as Partner, General & Intellectual Property (IP) Litigation Practice, alongside the full consolidation of Hafiz Zubir & Co. (“HZC”) into Azmi & Associates, and Hadi Mukhlis Khairulmaini as Partner within the Firm’s Litigation Practice Group, all effective 1 January 2026.
This strategic move reflects the Firm’s commitment to strengthening its IP and litigation capabilities, broadening its offering in civil litigation and SME corporate advisory, and expanding its presence in the Bangi–Putrajaya corridor, a hub of growing commercial and innovation activity. With these appointments, Azmi & Associates now counts twelve Partners in its Litigation Division, highlighting the Firm’s increasing sophistication and scale in dispute resolution and arbitration.
Ahmad Hafiz Zubir – Partner, General & IP Litigation
Ahmad Hafiz Zubir has been appointed as the Firm’s 29th Partner. Hafiz is the founding and principal partner of HZC since 2018, where he established a respected specialist practice in IP, litigation, and dispute resolution. He authored A Practical Guide on Trademark Registration in Malaysia (Sweet & Maxwell, November 2025) and continues to contribute to practitioner-focused publications.
Hafiz holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) and a Master of Intellectual Property from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). He is currently pursuing a PhD, reflecting his commitment to thought leadership and the advancement of IP jurisprudence.
His expertise spans copyright infringement, trademark disputes, patent and industrial design infringement, and complex disputes involving former business partners and IP assets. Hafiz also works closely with enforcement authorities on IP infringement matters and regularly advises higher learning institutions on licensing, commercialisation, and technology transfer matters.
Prior to joining Azmi & Associates, Hafiz was a Partner at Khairil Ahmad & Co. and Adnan Sharida & Associates, and began his legal career as a pupil at RamRais & Partners. His extensive experience across multiple platforms has provided him with a strong foundation in litigation, client advisory, and firm leadership.
Hadi Mukhlis Khairulmaini – Partner, Litigation Practice Group
Hadi Mukhlis Khairulmaini has been appointed as the Firm’s 30th Partner, strengthening Azmi & Associates’ litigation leadership bench. Hadi is an accomplished civil and commercial litigator with over 17 years of experience across all levels of the Malaysian judiciary.
He holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) and was admitted to the Malaysian Bar in June 2009. Hadi has developed extensive experience in contractual and commercial disputes, negligence and tort claims, land and property matters, administrative and public law (including judicial review proceedings), employment and industrial relations disputes, as well as construction and infrastructure litigation.
Hadi began his career with Messrs. Shook Lin & Bok, progressing from pupillage to Associate, and later served as a Partner at Messrs. Steven Thiru. He has consistently demonstrated courtroom credibility, appearing before the High Court and appellate courts in numerous reported and precedent-setting matters.
These appointments mark a significant milestone in Azmi & Associates’ continued growth, reinforcing its leadership in intellectual property, litigation, and dispute resolution. By expanding its partnership with the addition of Hafiz Zubir and Hadi Mukhlis Khairulmaini, the Firm is well-positioned to support clients on complex, high-value, and technically demanding legal matters across Malaysia.
