Global cinema chain operator Cineworld has chosen John Henrich the general counsel as part of a new executive team following the company’s rise from Chapter 11 proceedings last year.

Henrich has joined with a group of senior executives including new chief financial officer Thomas Song, chief human resources officer Ben Hill and Cineworld International president Javier Sotomayor. The group also comprises John Curry, the senior vice president of commercials at Regal.

Eduardo Acuna, the chief executive officer of the Cineworld Group, expressed, “We are excited to welcome Song, Hill, Sotomayer and Curry to our executive team. With their combined industry experience, leadership and communication skills, we are well-positioned to lead the best team in exhibition driving growth and success for Cineworld Group on a global level.”

In September 2022, Cineworld declared bankruptcy after years of mounting debt exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic and a broader decline in movie viewing at theatres. It emerged from bankruptcy protection in August 2023 after cutting its debt and raising new equity capital.

The company operates in 10 countries and owns theatre brands including Regal, Picturehouse, Planet and Cinema City.

Henrich earlier worked with the beauty supplies business Sally Beauty for 12 years. Having served as deputy general counsel and head of regulatory, for the past five years, he was the GC and led its audit, regulatory, information security and corporate strategy teams. He will assume similar responsibilities at the cinema chain.

Previously, he worked with French hotel operator Accor Hospitality for six years, with the final year as senior counsel. He served for two years as a corporate associate at US law firm Winstead.
